Explanation: This was worth a double-take: leaf on leaf! We are in the rainforests of southern Borneo, Indonesia, home to orangutans and gibbons and so much more. But what do we have here? This is one of the most cryptic organisms I've encountered, hiding in plain sight. This is a member of the leaf insect family Phylliidae. Its kindred species have been described and known for centuries, but they are still quite striking in their appearance. I'm not sure of the species, possibly Phyllium siccifolium. |
