A Common But Amazing Tern

Common Tern (Sterna hirundo), Family Laridae

Explanation:  While enjoying our ger site at the Ashihai Lake Camp site in northern Mongolia, here along the southern border of Russia, I took a hike along the nearby shoreline of massive Khovsgol Lake.  A familiar site caught my eye:  a Common Tern.

Common Terns
are amazingly widespread, globally, with breeding distributions in North America, western Europe, central Asia, and elsewhere.

But what I find so amazing is their annual migrations to and from the southern hemisphere, hugging the coastlines of South America, Africa, India, Australasia, and beyond.
