The Crater

Explanation:  Watch where you step!  Or you will become part of ... The Crater.

This is a wonderful geological formation south of Atherton, in Queensland, northeastern Australia.  Technically, this is a diatreme type crater, formed when a local volcanic eruption blasted through layers of granite.  Officially known as the Hypipamee Crater, many people simply refer to it as The Crater.

It is also a place where marsupial mammals appear after dark, such as possums, inhabiting the surrounding rainforest. 

The green surface in the above photo is likely from a summer bloom of algae.
