White-bellied Woodstar (Chaetocerus mulsant), Family Trochilidae
Mindo, Equador

Explanation:  On the Pacific Slope of the Andes Mountains of Ecuador, in the area of the town of Mindo, occur several wonderful nature reserves, including one specifically for hummingbirds.  Here, a tiny White-bellied Woodstar approaches a feeder.

Growing to only a little over 3 inches long, White-bellied Woodstars fly more like bumblebees than birds.  Although occurring only along a narrow strip of mid-elevation Andean habitat, they are nonetheless rated as Least Concern by IUCN with secure populations.
