Explanation: This is one massive carnivore of the mid- to upper-elevations of the Himalayan Mountains of south Asia. The Himalayan black bear is a subspecies of the Asiatic black bear, and is adapted to the cold, tough environments of these massive mountains. Their dense fur and large body size provide protection from the cold. Just look at that massive ruff around the neck that this male displays. Like other bears, the Himalayan black bear is omnivorous, seeking not just various plants, nuts, roots, fruits, and honey, but also grubs and larvae of insects. Threats to the species include forest clearing for agriculture, tree harvests for forestry, extensive forest fires, and poaching.
