Explanation:  Up on the hillside overlooking the town of Punacha in northwest Bhutan, south Asia, soared this beautiful bird prey ... a Jerdon's Baza ... known by many names.

Ranging from south India through Nepal and Bhutan, into southeast Asia, this raptor occupies deciduous and evergreen tropical and subtropical forests.  It hunts within and along edges of forest cover in search of large insects and small birds and mammals.  It seems relatively uncommon but its population size and trend are largely unstudied, and it may be at least locally threatened from clearings of its lowland primary forest habitats.
