Explanation: It is sunset over the vast high country of the Sierra Nevada mountains at an inauspicious time. We are flying over the back country of Yosemite National Park, a route seldom taken by airlines. But it is because of that vast haze, looking west into the interior valleys of central California. The air there is choked with smoke from multiple, devastating wildfires that are ravaging towns and urban-wild interface regions of the valley. This view from the back country includes Half Dome on the right, toward the head of Yosemite Valley trailing off into dense haze. |
