Crimson Jewel of Baringo

Explanation:  Wow, what a bird!  OK, that's not a particularly scientific description, but the Carmine Bee-eater seems to deserve some special recognition.  

This week we are tooling around the shoals and shores of Lake Baringo in the Rift Valley of southern Kenya, east Africa.  Among the reeds, hippos, and nile crocodiles perches this blast of crimson.  

Uncommon in this area, Carmine Bee-eaters are seasonal migrants from the northern Old World tropics.  They may nest in colonies but this adult was an isolated individual.
