Tigress Sighted

Explanation:    Last week, we were on an elephant-back safari in the remote center of Corbett National Park in northern India, in river grasslands at dawn, in search of a Bengal tigress heard roaring during the night.

Crossing the Ramganga River floodplain, our lead mahut spots a pugmark (track) in the mud ... fresh sign that she was recently this way.

At last our search is fulfilled, and for but a brief moment, we catch sight of the magnificent cat.  

She dashes across open ground in a flash, and in a moment dissolves back into the elephant grass.  

Our elephant mounts surround the spot where she vanished, but somehow she slips away.

 
A phantom appears ...                                ... and is instantly gone.

 

Later, finally back at camp, we add our sighting to the park's records:
