Expedition Perils

Explanation:   So you want to be a field wildlife ecologist, do you?  How good are you at digging out vehicles from rivers, mud pits, and bogs, miles from the nearest paved road?  Can you swim river currents when your boat goes down?  Can you rewire a jeep's headlights when they fail on you in the middle of Bengal tiger habitat ... in the middle of the night?

Here are a few of the perils -- and the fun -- I have encountered in some of my various global travels.

Acknowledgments -- I want to clarify that, over many years of travel and expeditions with wonderful colleagues and friends in many countries, I have always been treated well by so many great drivers and pilots.  Travel incidents can happen anywhere, and I would probably still be stranded today if not for the innovations, skill, and persistence of many vehicle operators.
